The challenge

Real-time simulation on PROFINET employing the SIMIT simulation system

Our solution

SIMBA-PNIO, as the hardware interface of the SIMIT simulation system, simulates PROFINET I/O-devices; it simulates the complete behavior of up to 256 devices on the field bus in real time. The simulation occurs non-reactively, i. e. it makes no difference for the controller in the communication with real and simulated devices; it’s possible to operate a mix of real and simulated PNIO devices. Networking of various SIMBA PNIO allows simulation of several PROFINET systems. The planning of the PROFINET network and its devices can be configured using the S7/PCS 7 planning tool (hardware configuration) and be modified or supplemented with the software included in the scope of delivery of SIMBA. Simple tests can be performed by operating and monitoring the inputs/outputs. Operation and monitoring of the individual device-systems as well as triggering of process and diagnostic alarms is possible via a comprehensive typical-library. The simulation structure for a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) can quickly and easily be established via precast simulation functions and import options. The range from simple testing to complete process simulation is supported and covered from the modular software concept of SIMIT.
