BANY PNIO

Time- and telegram-analysis of Realtime Ethernet.

 

The challenge

Ethernet technology has now permeated through all automation levels. At the same time, the complexity of the networks has grown vastly, although the availability of plants depends more and more on these central networks. They have now become the Achilles' heal of modern process control engineering. For that reason, technically demanding and powerful analysis and simulation systems are required to make work effective in the system test, the engineering test, and commissioning and plant operation and to keep system functions up and running. This especially applies to PROFINET (Process Field Ethernetbus). Based on Ethernet technology, PROFINET is set to be the new field bus standard. Compared with previous field bus systems, it features a high data transmission rate (100 MBit/s) and high data security.

The remaining task was to ensure that PROFINET can be analyzed and the device systems linked to it can be simulated.

As of now, a bus analyzer with which it is possible to check the bus autonomously and across all known speeds is available with BANY PNIO. The bus analyzer records data traffic at speeds up to 1 Gbit/s - without interaction via appropriate TAPs and on Ethernet and PROFINET in a 10-nanosecond timebase.

Based on a system platform with FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) technology, the functions of BANY PNIO operate independently of the conventions of the bus technology. Whether it is used for development and system testing or for system diagnostics arrow BANY PNIO is the first choice for handling PROFINET problems with its freely definable filter and trigger functions. All functions are controlled by a Windows application. This application can control multiple BANY PNIO systems over a LAN network.

Many systems can only be used for subsequent offline analysis of events on the bus based on telegram recording. In contrast BANY PNIO has direct and undelayed online analysis with its integrated computing power. Without telegram recording, all important characteristics are analyzed and evaluated and input into network statistics during communication. This can be displayed in a table or also graphically for a quick visual check over an unlimited period. This provides precise information about the quality of the network and the configured cycles.

With the synchronization check, all participants on the bus are placed in relation to the cycle with their specific synchronization time. Thus can be verified whether the devices are also transmitting within their defined time intervals. This makes BANY PNIO the central system for recording and diagnostics of PROFINET.
