Siemens to operate the Public Safety Network in Norway

The Norwegian Ministry of Justice and the Police has commissioned Siemens Networks to operate the national TETRA emergency call network (Terrestrial Trunked Radio). The contract will run for 20 years. This is one of the major contracts for Siemens to date in the field of network operation – also known as Managed Services. more

Biometric authentication system to protect sensitive medical data

The Susquehanna Health System in the USA is an alliance of 3 regional hospitals that has been using the Soarian Clinicals and Soarian Financials hospital solutions with a fully integrated workflow for years now. As the healthcare sector places particularly high demands on IT security, access to Soarian is now governed by a high-security component, the biometric authentication system ID Center. Max Bögl

Using the Siemens Security portfolio, a complex task was solved at the international player Max Bögl GmbH: role-based assignment of access rights that can be flexibly controlled by a project leader on site (e.g. at a construction site), creating the basis for a single sign-on solution where users log on using a smard card-based corporate badge and creating the necessary prerequisites for a public key infrastructure.

Metropolitan Police Service UK

Siemens delivers identity management solution to UK's largest police force. Just keeping phone and fax lists up-to-date for 45,000 employees is a colossal task. In addition, all of these people need some level of access to internal systems and databases, whether it's using email or logging on to the crime reporting systems. And, of course, a workforce of this size is constantly evolving, as staff leave and join, or move to new posts that mean they need access to different systems. Clearly, much of the information that Police Officers and Police Staff work with is highly sensitive, and it's vital that only authorised users have access to it. The MPS needs to ensure that personnel can only access data that they are authorised to view and that these permissions are kept up to date.

Video surveillance at Munich Airport

Installation of a custom-tailored 750-camera intelligent digital video management system in a new terminal. We also networked the newly installed cameras both with one another as well as with the some 700 cameras from the analog system in the old terminal via a wireless, optical waveguide Open Transport Network (OTN) that allows each individual camera to be freely assigned to any monitor in the system.

Biometric identification cards for Macao

Design and implementation of an integrated, biometric national identification card solution and delivery of some 540,000 multifunctional smart identification (ID) cards. Aside from their ID card function, they will also be able to store healthcare, driver's license and social security information, in addition to serving as an electronic wallet and the basis for private key infrastructure (PKI) solutions.

Emergency response centers for Finland

Sophisticated systems allow the country's 15 emergency response centers (ERC) to serve as hubs for all incoming emergency calls - an environment where reliability is crucial. What sets this concept apart is that only a single telephone number brings assistance from firefighters, police, emergency medical services, crisis response, maritime rescue and other partners.

Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) at the 2004 Olympics in Athens

As part of its responsibility for security at the Olympic Games in Athens, Siemens designed, developed, integrated and installed this real-time fleet monitoring system for 4,205 vehicles, including training and 24x7 support. AVL enables the closest vehicle or point of interest to be located on the basis of a point on the map, identifies the driver and provides automatic notification in the event of alerts.

Explosives detection for the TSA throughout the United States

Under a contract from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Siemens was entrusted to partner with Boeing for complete installation and maintenance of more than 7,000 explosives screening systems and machines at 445 airports throughout the United States and its territories. A major factor in the award of this contract was Siemens' experience as a trusted operator of security systems and its ability to propose realistic solutions in developing new projects.

Security integration in Switzerland

The HUSKY trusted service integration platform affords secure and easy integration of processes that run on heterogeneous IT systems in independent security domains. This middleware platform significantly reduces implementation time and lifecycle costs. The Swiss Air Force uses it for secure access to information from the independent IT infrastructures at all of the country's military airfields.

Pilot project for biometric passports in Switzerland

Since 4 September 2006, the Swiss can apply for biometric passports. This type of passport not only involves “engraving” personal data into the document, but also storing it on microchip. Within the framework of a six-year contract, Siemens has developed the solution for capturing and verifying the biometric data of Swiss citizens and checking Swiss biometric ID documents. more

Siemens develops biometric algorithm for national electronic ID card in Spain

Siemens Communications is involved in the development of the electronic identity card in Spain. Working closely with Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre, who are heading the project, Siemens has developed a biometric algorithm called the "SmartMatcher" which enables the minutiae of a scanned fingerprint to be saved on the national ID card. The contract includes the development, technical support and updating of the developed algorithm. more
