A basic need
Security impacts virtually every facet of modern life. The spectrum
ranges from intelligence, screening, prevention and early
warning to personal safety and well-being, border and transportation
security and protection for critical infrastructure right
through to emergency preparedness, management and response.
Yet security involves much more. It also serves as the very
foundation for successful business and commerce in our electronically
networked global economy by safeguarding against
a wide range of threats. Secure communications and transactions,
access to information technology infrastructures,
know-how and other intellectual property are but a few of the
needs in supporting secure and efficient business processes in
the private sector.
However we at Siemens believe that security should also serve
as an enabler. It should allow a free flow of people, goods,
information and capital by providing an environment in which
the global economy can operate securely and efficiently. In
fact, it would simply be impossible to do business in today’s
mobile world without effective, convenient and affordable
security. So the very need for security brings with it new chances
and opportunities for speeding up business processes and making
them more efficient and flexible.
Siemens is uniquely positioned to do this by bundling its vast
reservoir of expertise in the individual sectors in which its
globally operating businesses are active to offer consistent,
integrated security solutions. And Siemens is responding to the
trust it has earned from both the public and private sector by
investing heavily in research and development in connection
with cutting-edge technologies.
