Jiangsu Shagang expands production capacity with two Siemens rod outlets
The Jiangsu Shagang Group Company has awarded contracts to Siemens VAI Metals Technologies for two new rod outlets to increase capacity and improve product quality at its Zhangjiagang mill. The value of the order is more than 10 million euro. Delivery is mid-2010 for the first rod outlet, and third quarter 2010 for the second.
The Jiangsu Shagang Group Company is China’s largest privately-owned steel manufacturer and one of the country’s top five steel producers with an annual output of approximately 24 million tons of rolled products. Located in Zhangjiagang City in Jiangsu Province, the company manufactures rebar, wire rods, slabs, and hot-rolled coils.
The scope of supply for each mill includes the supply of a four-stand Pre-Finishing Mill (PFM) arrangement, a 10-stand Vee No-Twist Mill (NTM), a pinch roll/laying head arrangement and a coil compactor for one of the strands plus the design of other related equipment from the PFM to the reform station. The Vee-No Twist Mill is capable of sustained, reliable operation at a speed of 105 meters per second to produce rod from 5.5mm to 16mm, and rebar from 6mm to 16mm in size.
Siemens VAI will also supply the guides for the PFM and the NTM, troughs, water boxes, pinch rolls and laying heads. The Stelmor controlled-cooling conveyor system enables the mill to produce a wide spectrum of plain carbon and alloy steels, among them structural steel, high carbon, low alloy, and cold heading steel.
