Siemens announces ESCO (energy service company) performance contracts are now available to municipal wastewater treatment customers in North America. An ESCO performance-based contract allows for an alternative funding method for a capital improvement in the wastewater plant that reduces energy use, operation costs, and labor. This is paid for from the guaranteed savings generated from implementing process improvements for the facility. -->more

For the Italian navy, the Siemens Industry Solutions Division is equipping two new submarines of the U212A type with fuel cell modules for air-independent propulsion. The systems are ordered by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH (HDW). Delivery of the two submarines to the Italian navy is planned for 2015 and 2016. This will increase to 30 the number of submarines plying the seas worldwide with a Siemens fuel cell technology. The order has a volume of around 29 million euros. -->more

Chalco North East Light Alloy Company Ltd, a subsidiary of the Aluminium Corporation of China (Chinalco), has ordered a single-pass reversing finishing mill with twin coiler from Siemens VAI Metals Technologies. The mill is part of a hot and cold mill expansion which will be erected in Harbin. The order is worth some 13 million Euros and includes key electrical and mechanical components together with the automation and process technology. The new rolling mill is scheduled to start production in August 2011. The project will enable Siemens to further strengthen its market position in aluminum rolling mills in China. -->more

This system has been specifically developed for foundries and micro steel works. Siemens Water Technologies & Engineering (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. (SWTE) signed a 42 million Renminbi (approx. 4.2 million Euro) contract with Tianjin Capital Environmental Protection Group Co., Ltd. in China (TCEPC) to provide a Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) system for upgrading and retrofitting the facilities of Tianjin Xianyang Road Wastewater Treatment Plant (Xianyang Road WWTP) in Tianjin, China. The BNR system will be designed to treat 450,000 m3 per day and to significantly improve the effluent discharge standard of Xianyang Road WWTP from the national standard of Class II to Class I. Siemens Industry Solutions will be responsible for maintaining, servicing and operating four photovoltaic systems in Spain for Eolia Renovables, one of the leading independent European companies in wind power and photovoltaic solar electricity generation. Siemens has already supplied important electrical components for constructing these solar parks which boasts a total power of over 45,8 MW. The full service and maintenance contract totals approximately 40 million Euros and will span a period of 23/24 years. -->more

A consortium consisting of the Siemens Industry Solutions Division and Siemag M-Tec² GmbH, Netphen, has received an order from Datong Coal Mine Group. Co., Ltd., China, to supply two new winders for the Majialiang coal mine. The Siemens part of the scope of supply has a volume of more than four million euros. Completion of the project is scheduled for the end of 2010. In China, more than 80 shaft winding installations have already been equipped with Siemens technology. -->more

Mondi has contracted the Siemens Industry Solutions Division to equip board machine BM21 and a roll slitter in the Russian factory in Syktyvkar with new electrical equipment and drive technology. The project is part of an expansion program aimed at increasing the annual production capacity to 900,000 metric tons of pulp and almost 1,000,000 metric tons of paper and board*. Siemens has already equipped paper machine PM14 for this purpose and is now supplying the steam turbine-generator set for power generation and the electrical equipment for the entire pulp line. The total volume of the order amounts to around 38 million euros. Commissioning of the modernized pulp line is scheduled for summer 2010. -->more

The Siemens Industry Solutions Division has won a contract from Voith Paper to provide the electrical equipment for the new newsprint paper machine of Perlen Papier AG in Perlen, Switzerland. This project encompasses the drives and electrical engineering for a paper machine, two roller cutters and ancillary systems. The PM7 paper machine supplied by Voith Paper is designed to produce 360,000 metric tons of newsprint paper annually, almost exceeding three times the capacity of its predecessors. Its energy-efficient drive concept makes it one of the most modern machines of its kind. The contract is worth eight million euros. With commissioning of the paper machine now scheduled for the summer of 2010, effective paper production will be able to commence as of October 2010. -->more

Siemens VAI (Taicang) Manufacturing Co. (SVMC) and the Chinese steel manufacturer Nanjing Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. (NISCO) have signed a roller refurbishment contract for two continuous slab casters. According to this contract, initially for a period of three years, SVMC will be taking care of refurbishing rolls of the casters CCM1 and CCM2. This is the first order that has been received for the roll refurbishing workshop in Taicang, which was inaugurated in May 2009. Payment is based on the Siemens VAI “cost per ton” model and is orientated to the tonnage produced on the casters. Thus, NISCO can transform fixed maintenance costs into variable costs dependent on production. -->more

In June 2009 industrial production in the endless mode commenced at the new Arvedi ESP (Endless Strip Production) line in Cremona, Italy. For the first time ever, hot-rolled coils can now be commercially produced in a thin-slab casting/rolling plant directly from liquid steel in a continuous and uninterrupted manufacturing process. This plant, based on Arvedi technology and implemented by Siemens VAI Metals Technologies, allows the thermal energy of liquid steel to be fully exploited. Thin-gauge strip is produced in better quality and at lower costs compared to alternative processes. This new casting-rolling facility represents the world's most compact line for the production of hot-rolled strip. -->more

Siemens VAI Metals Technologies replaced two existing stationary AOD vessels and started up two new exchange-type AOD converters at the German stainless steel producer ThyssenKrupp Nirosta in Krefeld, including auxiliary equipment. All installation work up until the converter start-ups in the Spring of 2009 was carried out within only three weeks' time, minimizing production downtime. Following the fulfillment of the guarantee performance figures, the Final Acceptance Certificate was issued by the customer. -->more

Siemens Water Technologies received a contract from Wuxi Water Supply General Company in China’s Jiangsu Province to supply a turnkey water treatment solution for Wuxi Zhongqiao Water Supply Co., Ltd. Centerpiece of the solution will be a Memcor ultra filtration membrane system. It will produce 150,000 m3 per day high quality drinking water for the residents of Wuxi, making it one of the largest membrane-based drinking-water treatment projects in China. The order volume amounts to 40 million Renminbi ( approx. 4.2 million Euro). The plant is scheduled to start up at the beginning of 2010. -->more
