Siemens Water Technologies has commissioned a wastewater treatment system for the Wuxi Xincheng Plant in China´s Jiangsu Province. An upgrade to the existing wastewater treatment plant, the system includes a Siemens advanced Membrane Biological Reactor (MBR) system. It is producing of 30,000 cubic meters per day of high quality effluent that meets or exceeds the national discharge standard of Class I-A, allowing the treated water to be safely discharged to Taihu Lake. -->more

Siemens has received an order from Wuhan Iron and Steel (Group) Co. (Wisco), a Chinese steelmaker, to equip a coupled tandem pickling line in cold rolling mill no. 1 with energy-saving main drives. The Siroll CM process automation system will also be modernized. The order is worth several million euros. When the project is completed in September 2010, Wisco will also be able to produce high-strength steel grades in the plant. -->more

Altos Hornos de Mexico, S.A.B. de C.V. (AHMSA) has awarded Siemens a contract to modernize their existing basic and process automation systems on their Monclova Hot Strip Mill. Siemens will supply and install modern automation technology based on the Siroll HM platform, which is specifically designed for hot rolling mills. The total value of the order is 21 million US dollars and the project is due to be completed in the summer of 2011. -->more

The Siemens Industry Solutions Division has been awarded with an order from Cong Thanh Cement Joint Stock Company to supply the electrical and automation equipment for the new second production line at the Cong Thanh Cement Plant in the Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam. A kiln control system integrated into the PCS 7-based process control system will constantly optimize the consumption and the clinker production. With a future capacity of 12,000 tons clinker per day, this plant is the largest single cement production line currently being built in Asia. The new production line will be the largest single cement production line in Asia and once in full operation by 2011 it will turn the Cong Thanh Cement Plant into a major additional production facility for Vietnam cement industry. -->more

Zenith Steel (Changzhou Zhongtian Iron & Steel) in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, People’s Republic of China, has signed multiple contracts for two rod outlets for the company’s new rod mills that will be located in Changzhou. The contracts are valued at more than €10 million. Siemens Water Technologies will supply a nine-piece odor control system at the 250,000 m3/d North Jeddah Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As the STP is located next to the King Abdullah Aziz Airport in Jeddah, the Ministry of Water and Electricity requested that odor control equipment be installed. Valued at more than US$2 million, the system will consist of three different technologies located at five areas throughout the plant. Once completed by year’s end, this will be one of the largest odor control installations in all of Saudi Arabia. -->more

Conversion and commissioning were done together with a consortium partner. With the aid of the new high-performance coiler system, voestalpine will be able to expand its hot strip product range. Siemens is meeting the steel industry’s growing demand for every higher performance levels in melting down scrap metal by launching a refined medium-voltage circuit-breaker. As of September 2009, the company offers 3AH4 vacuum circuit-breakers with an operating current of 4000 amperes (A) for the 36-kilovolt voltage level. It is the first vacuum circuit-breaker worldwide for frequent-operation applications up to 120,000 switching cycles capable of handling such a high operating current without forced cooling. The short-circuit breaking current is 40 kiloamperes (kA) at a voltage of up to 40.5 kilovolts (kV). Siemens has developed these circuit-breakers above all for special applications in the steel industry, such as for switching operations on electric arc furnaces. -->more

Siemens Water Technologies will provide Zimpro wet air oxidation technology to treat wastewater at Sinopec’s Zhenhai and Tianjin ethylene plant projects in the Zhenhai District, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, and in Tianjin, China. The systems will be used to treat sulfidic spent caustic wastewater streams generated in the production of ethylene. The energy-efficient wet air oxidation systems will destroy odorous sulfide pollutants and generate a biodegradable effluent that can be discharged to conventional biological wastewater treatment. The Zhenhai system will treat approximately 18.2 m3/hr of wastewater; the Tianjin system will treat 14.5 m3/hr. -->more

Siemens has been awarded the contract to provide process equipment, design and start-up services for a wastewater treatment system at the Pearl Valley Cheese, Inc. production facility in Fresno, Ohio. The system will be designed to convert waste material generated during cheese production into a reusable biogas generated in the wastewater treatment process. This renewable energy approach allows Pearl Valley Cheese to receive a state funding grant, and reduces the amount of natural gas required to operate the facility’s boilers, which are used for providing steam for the cooking, cleaning and pasteurizing processes. The 50,000-gallon-per-day (GPD) (189,000 LPD) system, which will be able to handle a variety of waste streams and still meet effluent requirements, is scheduled for start up in the summer of 2010. -->more
