Apr 07, 2003 | Optimized cleaning of industrial gas emissions with reduced energy costs - Siemens offers electrostatic precipitator solution with fuzzy logicSiemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Group is able to provide plant operators with an energy cost cutting solution for cleaning industrial gas emissions. High-voltage devices with power semiconductors boost the separation performance, in many cases making a mechanical supplement to the electrostatic precipitator superfluous. A fuzzy logic based control system automatically finds the lowest-cost operating mode depending on the emission load. For example, the saving potential in a 400-megawatt coal-fired power plant is about one megawatt. A return-on-investment is usually achieved within two years. The control system can also be integrated into existing filter systems. more |
Feb 26, 2003 | Siemens to modernize the Ruzomberok paper factory in the Slovak RepublicThe Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) has been awarded a contract by Severoslovenske Celulozky a Papierne A.S. in Ruzomberok in the Slovak Republic to equip a paper machine and a roll slitter with new drive and automation equipment. The modernization is aimed at raising the plant's production capacity and at increasing the paper quality by enhancing the precision of drive-speed control. The contract, worth EUR 3.5 million, covers delivery, installation and commissioning of the systems. more |
Feb 26, 2003 | Standards for productive plants“We combine our technological leadership in products, process know-how, specific MES solutions and services into Industry Suites, the Siemens-made tailored, ready-made suit, to make our customers’ business even more profitable,” said Helmut Gierse, A&D President and CEO, at a joint press conference of the two Siemens industrial groups Automation and Drives (A&D) and Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) on Februar 26, 2003 in Frankfurt. Joergen Ole Haslestad, I&S President and CEO, added: “We provide services and solutions for all sectors of the industry that build on standardized foundations and significantly reduce the necessary specific and custom integration effort. This improves operational reliability, reduces costs and results in a faster return-on-invest.” more |
Feb 26, 2003 | Data acquisition at high speeds and with a time stamp - Castomat Sicom enables process analysis and optimization in the manufacturing and process-engineering industriesIn the framework of its service portfolio for industrial plants, the Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) is supplying a new version of the Castomat Sicom data acquisition system. The wider spectrum of measurement data and the integrated time stamp enable faster and more precise problem analysis. Interfaces to other bus systems have been added to the old system. Castomat Sicom, developed for use in the manufacturing and process-engineering industries, acquires all the plant-relevant data and provides them, time synchronized, in a uniform data format in real time. Outage times are reduced due to rapid analysis of the plant's status at any time. The results of such analysis then form the basis for optimizing the production processes. more |
Feb 26, 2003 | React quicker with FunkServerPro and WinCC MaintenanceManager - Siemens rolls out a comprehensive alarm and maintenance management solution"FunkServerPro" from the Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) allows plant operators to respond to faults without delay and thus avoid plant outages. The modular alarm management system transmits fault and process alerts from control and visualization systems, for example, Simatic WinCC to mobile receivers such as cellphones, pagers or mobile subscribers to Hicom telephone systems. The programmable alerts are automatically sent to responsible persons or groups of persons. With the "WinCC Maintenance Manager" the process control system user can add additional comments to every fault message. Thus a knowledge base can be compiled step-by-step for faster error elimination and a logbook with fault data and fault-elimination periods can be generated automatically. more |
Jan 28, 2003 | Maintenance management training on the WebSince the beginning of 2003 the Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) at Siemens, Dr. Kalaitzis & Partner GmbH and Scidoc AG offer Web-based training in maintenance management. Management concepts, strategies and the basic business aspects of maintenance as well as practical methods and techniques are covered in the training course. Students will study some topics at home, and will attend a seminar for a better grounding in the course material. The training program will be available in both German and English. more |
Nov 26, 2002 | Transparent communication through open standards - "IndustrialDataBridge" from Siemens is your bridge between automation systems and the IT environmentWith "IndustrialDataBridge", the Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) at Siemens offers a link between conventional and OPC (OLE for Process Control)-based interfaces. The solution allows the exchange of process and plant data between automation systems from different manufacturers and across different interfaces or data protocols. IndustrialDataBridge also ensures trouble-free information flow in heterogeneous and mature automation platforms. Linking is provided to database systems or Microsoft office applications as well. IndustrialDataBridge already incorporates the new OPC DX functionality (Data Exchange) - thus allowing data exchange between OPC servers. more |
Oct 21, 2002 | Siemens supplies all-round electro-technical solution for papermill in Israel - First turnkey installation in the Middle East to use the PCS7-based process control systemThe Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) of Siemens AG has installed and commissioned an turnkey automation and electrical system for the Israeli company, Hogla-Kimberly Ltd., Hadera, for a new production line for hygienic paper in Nahariya. The comprehensive PCS7-based automation solution allows for integrated process control along the production line. In addition to the process control system, the project encompassed the complete power distribution, the motors, the field instrumentation and drive system. more |
Sep 06, 2002 | Reflexive diagnostic units now monitor the basic automation system as well - Siemens expert systems equipped with an OPC interfaceThe new versions of the "Reflexive Diagnostic Units" (RDU) now have an OPC (OLE for Process Control) interface. This enables the expert systems of the Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) to monitor basic automation equipment as well. Configurable diagnostic modules contain expert knowledge of plant statuses and act independently within the monitored environment according to specific stipulated rules - without any permanent connection to a central control station. The RDUs' functions range from monitoring and automatic collection of relevant plant data to the dispatching of e-mails and SMS messages to the maintenance personnel. This enables preventive strategies for preventive and corrective maintenance of complex plants, which, in turn, increases operating safety and avoids plant shutdowns. more |
