Mar 03, 2004 | Deploying new control technology, while using existing automation components - Siemens offers migration solutions for process control systemsSiemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) offers plant operators comprehensive services for migrating process control systems. The spectrum of services ranges from evaluating the plant and creating an individual migration strategy, implementing tool-supported migration of plant data, all the way to system startup and operator training. The objective is to make the technical advantages of new process control systems such as Simatic PCS 7 available with as little effort and downtime as possible. When the most suitable migration strategy is selected, then - depending on the level of plant standardization - between 70% and 95% of the data can be migrated using tool-supported migration. more |
Mar 03, 2004 | Siemens extends maintenance analysis for industrial companies - "Maintenance Business Review" provides industry benchmarks and identifies potentialWith "Maintenance Business Review", the Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Group provides a db-based method for analyzing maintenance concepts for plants in the process and manufacturing industries. It measures and validates the performance of existing maintenance schedules and activities. The results obtained are compared with benchmarks for the industry concerned, thereby identifying unused potential. On this basis, Siemens works out specific proposals for reducing maintenance costs and increasing plant availability. more |
Mar 03, 2004 | Identify potential and utilize reserves: Castomat increases line speeds in paper and steel productionWith its new version of the Castomat measuring and analyzing system, the Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Group allows paper and steel producers to identify ways of increasing production line speeds. Production capacities can thus be increased in the short term without requiring major capital expenditure on plant equipment. Moreover, the system identifies components which need to be replaced in order to enhance performance. more |

Sep 11, 2003 | Simulation tool from Siemens for professional training - Testing automation software in your class room with "Simit SCE""Simit SCE" from the Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) is a training package on CD-ROM which fits in seamlessly with the Step 7 training program. The simulation tool is part of the "SCE education" concept of the Siemens Automation and Drives Group (A&D) and, depending on the application, simulates input and output signals, the instrumentation and field units as well as a model of the plant. The result is a complete, dynamic simulation of the plant based on real physical models combined with the automation system. Siemens thus offers research facilities as well as development and training centers a simple introduction to professional plant simulation. more |
Sep 09, 2003 | Measured data transfer: Castomat allows optical data transmission in accordance with the IEEE1394b standard at 400 megabits per secondThe Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) at Siemens is expanding its Castomat measurement and analysis system with an interface to the "FireWire" serial bus system in accordance with the IEEE1394b standard. In cooperation with Foltyn Industriesystem-Elektronik GmbH (Nuremberg, Germany), an optical repeater based on this standard has now been developed. This new repeater permits data transmission over fiber-optic cable. Even in industrial applications with high levels of electromagnetic noise, closely synchronized measurements can be transferred at rates of 400 megabits per second. Compared to the conventional IEEE1394a standard, it is now possible to transfer measurements over a distance of up to 100 meters. more |
