Mar 03, 2005 | Industry specific solutions increase productivitySiemens sets technological trends with industry specific solutions and with a horizontally and vertically fully integrated automation environment. "Potential productivity gains can no longer be made through improved stand-alone solutions, but are now best achieved via the seamless integration of communication and automation systems into workflows", stated Helmut Gierse, Group President of Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D). "The integration of industry-specific plant modules based on electrotechnical standard products is a response to our customers' demands for modular and parameterizable plant components. The plant modules are easy to maintain and adapt to any environment or technological advance", explained Joergen Ole Haslestad, Group President of Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S). Both Siemens Groups presented their business strategies and new products, solutions and services for factory and process automation on 3 March in Frankfurt, ahead of the Hanover Fair. more |
Mar 03, 2005 | Managing large-scale projects successfully: Siemens equips world's largest board machine and pulp mill with "Sipaper" modules in record timeThe PM 1 board machine in Ningbo, China, which was equipped with electrical systems by the Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S), as well as the pulp mill on Hainan started production at the end of 2004 earlier than expected. The two plants are the largest of their kind in the world. Completion of the electrical equipment well within schedule - an unusual achievement where large-scale projects are concerned - was possible due to the use of "Sipaper", an all-round modular concept from Siemens. more |

Mar 03, 2004 | Standardization on a broad technical basis ensures lasting success and competitiveness in industry"By developing and integrating increasingly demanding standards for products, systems and services used in the construction, automation and operation of industrial plants, we are securing the long-term competitiveness of our customers that face increasingly complex industrial production". This statement was made by Joergen Ole Haslestad, I&S President, at a joint press conference held by the Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) and Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Industry Groups in Frankfurt, Germany, on March 3, 2004. Helmut Gierse, A&D President, emphazised: "Siemens offers a unique integrated platform for the converging worlds of production and process automation in the so-called hybrid industries. Thanks to the standardization, modularization and integration of automation and energy systems within the Siemens Industry Suites, our customers save both time and money and are thus able to boost their profitability considerably." more |
Mar 03, 2004 | Siflot with closed control loop - Siemens automates the waste paper preparation processWith the new enhanced version of Siflot, Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) has now automated the flotation process. Even with different grades of waste paper, a consistently high level of quality can be achieved for the base material used for paper production, without the need for in-production manual adjustments to the flotation process. Siflot uses a neuro-fuzzy system to measure the pulp suspension properties during production, allowing the quality of the material to be predicted online at the end of the flotation process. Using a model-based controller, Siflot automatically sets the mill to the target brightness and continually adjusts it in line with changing operating conditions. This optimizes the production process, cuts costs, and enhances the quality of the paper. more |
Mar 03, 2004 | Siemens delivers innovative drive system for new paper machineThe Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Group will equip the new PM 5 paper machine at Papier- und Kartonfabrik Varel GmbH & Co. KG with an innovative drive system. For the first time, Siemens will assemble a complete drive system from the modular Sinamics family to cater for the specific needs of the paper industry. The simple, integrated engineering concept which characterizes this system facilitates a drive combination that is tailor-made for the paper machine and the slitter winder, consisting of gearless sectional drives with a central control unit. The drive system saves more energy, runs more quietly and takes up less space than conventional drives. The order, worth around EUR 4.5 million, also includes the supply of the complete electrical engineering. Production is scheduled to commence at the end of 2004. more |
