Migration of process control systems - practical aspects

Diethard Wehn, Uwe Riese und Helmut von Au
2003-06-26

Usually process control systems have a shorter live span than the automized plant. So an interesting challenge is to set up a migration strategy from one generation of control systems to a new one, preserving the invest hidden in the plant engineering. At the same time, all functions of the new process control system should be usable and the migrated system should be kept open for any expansion - with the postulation of short times for conversion and re-commissioning. This article discusses the necessary standards for a migration strategy using Teleperm M and Simatic PCS 7 as an example.
