Siemens secures orders for eleven compressors and one industrial steam turbine

Erlangen 2006-05-30

Siemens Power Generation (PG) has received an order from Linde AG, Germany for an industrial steam turbine for the BASF industrial complex in Antwerp, Belgium. Siemens PG has also been contracted to supply a total of eleven compressors for Linde chemical plants in Belgium, Saudi Arabia and Russia. The order value is approximately EUR45 million.

The project combines both refurbishment of a compressor train with a new SST-600 industrial steam turbine and the provision of three additional steam turbine-driven compressor trains. The compressor trains each comprise a steam turbine and one or more horizontally split STC-SH compressors. Refurbishment and expansion of the Antwerp plant will enable BASF to increase ethylene production by 30 percent to over one million tonnes per year. Delivery of the new Siemens PG products is scheduled for March 2007.

Siemens PG has also been contracted to supply Linde AG with six integrally geared compressors, destined for two air separation plants in Saudi Arabia. To each plant, Siemens PG is supplying three compressor trains, models STC-GV (200-3), STC-GV (32-5-H) and STC-GV (50-3). The compressor trains are designed for oxygen production of 3000 tonnes per day. Delivery of the new equipment is scheduled for early 2007. In December 2005 Siemens PG supplied a large-scale compression solution for one of these plants in Saudi Arabia, operated by the National Industrial Gases Company. This solution will be at the heart of the air separation plants, and is capable of processing no less than 700,000 cubic meters of air per hour.

Also for Linde AG, Siemens PG will supply two standard integrally geared STC-GC compressors to an air separation plant in Norilsk, in Russian Siberia. The plant operator will be GMK Norilsk Nikel, the world’s largest producer of nickel and palladium.

The Power Generation Group (PG) of Siemens AG is one of the premier companies in the international power generation sector. In fiscal 2005 (which ended September 30), Siemens PG posted sales amounting to approximately EUR8.1 billion and received new orders totaling EUR10.9 billion. Group profit amounted to EUR951 million. On September 30, 2005, PG had a work force of approximately 33,500 worldwide.
