EnergyCommunicationHub from Siemens:
Exchanging business messages efficiently and automatically following a change of supplier in the energy industry
Essen
2006-11-21
With its EnergyCommunicationHub, the Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) is offering a service for automated and efficient electronic data exchange between business partners in the power supply and gas industry. The EnergyCommunicationHub acts as an electronic translation office: irrespective of the original data format, business messages are converted into the standard Edigas or DIN-XML format and dispatched to the recipient in an encrypted form. Transport customers, gas grid network operators and owners of power/gas storage installations do not need any additional IT infrastructure for processing and converting the data. This makes it possible to design communication processes - when the supplier changes - in an efficient manner suitable for broad-spectrum business, especially for transport customers. The legal directive concerning access to gas supply networks (GasNZV) dated July 25, 2005 obliges operators of gas supply networks in Germany - when consumers change their supplier - to ensure electronic data exchange with transport customers on the basis of a uniform format by August 1, 2006. The background to this ruling is the interest of legislators in bringing about industry-wide collaboration among gas grid network operators in order to make electronic data exchange with transport customers efficient, transparent and non-discriminatory. Standard data forms in the gas industry are Edigas and DIN-XML. In the supplier-change process – when an end consumer changes from the previous gas supplier to a new one – a series of steps must be taken which enable the new supplier to use the gas supply network in order to deliver gas to that end consumer. This also includes the exchange of business messages such as accounting data.
The EnergyCommunicationHub supports network connections such as X.25, ISDN, LAN or WAN as well as a large number of protocols. Data can be transmitted either synchronously or asynchronously, actively or passively as well as "just-in-time" or using time-control. Whatever method is selected, it is ensured that all automatic data processing is carried out in conformance with business processes. Conversions into other formats such as CSV or XML are also possible as well as imaging of complex management information, e.g. conversion of the codes of partner numbers and quantity units. Context-sensitive messaging functions facilitate the assignment of business messages while encryption and an electronic signature provide security when data is exchanged. In addition, the EnergyCommunicationHub performs extensive protocol and reporting functions and the status of business processes can be kept track of as well.
