Siemens sets industrial trends with sector-based portfolio and
integrated process solutions
Frankfurt/Main 2006-03-09
Industry Press Conference
"As a supplier of industrial equipment, Siemens is
the company with the widest sector-based portfolio. Furthermore, our
extensive and integrated portfolio adapted to suit standardized products
and systems is unique to the market. In this way, we not only perceive
trends in production, we set them worldwide", said Helmut Gierse,
President of the Siemens Automation and Drives Group (A&D). "With our
range of products for total plants and for individual stages of
production we offer solutions for industry and for infrastructure
development. This gives our customers the long-term secure footing and a
keen competitive edge by considering all processes and procedures
holistically", commented Joergen Ole Haslestad, President of the Siemens
Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S). Both Groups presented
their business strategies, as well as new products, solutions and
services for factory and process automation, on March 9 in Frankfurt in
advance of the Hanover Fair.
A&D and I&S have pooled their sector know-how in cross-Siemens
Competence Centers and the marketing of this know-how in Industry Suites
(www.siemens.com/industrysuites). The basis for this is formed by
"Totally Integrated Automation" and "Totally Integrated Power". "We will
continue to develop our range of automation products and services and
will therefore be in a position to easily integrate all market-related
technologies into our total architecture", added Helmut Gierse. By
acquiring Robicon and Flender, Siemens A&D has expanded its portfolio
across the entire drives range and enhanced market access significantly.
This has given the world market leader yet more strength, particularly
in process automation.
After successfully introducing product families tailored to suit
specific sectors of industry, I&S set about further expanding its range
of solutions for industry and infrastructure systems. Having acquired
the Voest Alpine industrial plant construction company, I&S is the
leading world supplier for the iron and steel production sector.
Following the acquisition and integration of USFilter, Siemens is the #
1 in water and wastewater treatment. The I&S range includes industrial
processes for saving resources that are in short supply worldwide, for
reducing costs and for safeguarding production. With Postal Automation
and Airport Logistics now also integrated into I&S, this Siemens Group
is today a leading provider of infrastructure solutions that meet the
global requirements of logistics networks. "By looking at things as a
whole and combining process knowledge with electrical engineering, I&S
is in a position today", according to Joergen Ole Haslestad, "to
optimize plants and subprocesses for industry and infrastructure in both
technological and economic terms. With our process solutions, plant
modernization and service on site we are setting the trends for the
future and maintaining the competitiveness of our customers worldwide".
