Siemens Water Technologies Designs New MBR Specifically for
Petroleum Industry
Warrendale 2006-03-03
The Water Technology division of Siemens' Industrial
Solutions and Services (I&S) Group, has developed a new product in the
MemJet membrane bioreactor (MBR) product line that meets the strict
environmental regulations and engineering standards of the petroleum
industry: the MemJet Petro MBR system. This specification- and
quality-compliant product can be applied to a range of applications from
oily wastewater for cooling tower or boiler feed make-up systems to
sanitary wastewater for irrigation reuse.
Memcor low-pressure membranes comprise the heart of the MemJet Petro
system, which is specifically designed to remove common petroleum
industry wastewater contaminants such as suspended solids, BOD, ammonia
and total nitrogen, as well as turbidity, coliforms, and other
infectious agents in sanitary applications. Water clarified with
membranes produces a filtrate of less than 1 mg/L suspended solids,
turbidity typically below 0.1 NTU and silt density indexes (SDI) below
3.
In addition, the MemJet Petro MBR can be integrated with existing
biological processes, or any of the USFilter biological processes, to
ensure the most efficient, reliable, and low maintenance biological
process is used for each application. This combination of biological and
membrane expertise yields performance that meets all current
requirements for discharge, and ideally offers reuse opportunities
producing exceptional quality RO feed water, increasing RO membrane life
span and RO process reliability.
Contained on shop-assembled skids that are factory-piped, wired and
tested, the MemJet Petro MBR system includes all required membrane
modules, pumps, blowers, instruments and controls. Standard accessories
and options such as instrument air supply, primary treatment, SCADA and
remote telemetry are available to enhance the functionality of the
MemJet Petro MBR system and to address each unique plant's specific
integration requirements.
"Designing a product specifically for the petroleum industry was an
interesting challenge," says Bob Wenta, director of membrane systems
sales for the petroleum markets within Siemens Water Technologies. "The
MemJet Petro MBR system will enable refineries and petrochemical plants
to take advantage of this proven technology within their strict design
and operational requirements."
Siemens Water Technologies is a leader in membrane bioreactor technology
for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment and has created an MBR
technology center which coordinates the company's expertise in membrane
filtration and biological treatment and concentrates on meeting customer
needs for treatment technology.
