Siemens Industrial Projects and Technical Services
(ATD) Group has received from the Chinese
Wuhan Iron & Steel Corp. (Wisco) the order for
all the electrical and automation technology for a new
hot rolling mill in Wuhan, Hubei province. The hot
rolling mill is due for commissioning at the end of 2002.
Siemens will be supplying the power factor correction
equipment and all drive systems. Also included in the
scope of supply are basic automation, process automation,
monitoring and control systems, computer-supported
process optimization equipment and closed-loop
control systems for quality assurance purposes.
And Siemens will be supervising the erection and commissioning
works and providing customer training.
The rolling-mill motors will be manufactured in cooperation
with a local partner in China. Wisco itself
will be taking care of the preliminary and detail engineering.
At the first construction stage, the new mill
will have the capacity to produce 3.5 million t of hot
rolled strip a year. The main factors contributing to
Siemens being awarded the order were technical and
technological competence in the hot rolling mill sector
as well as a strong local presence in China.
