SEAISI 2000 in Perth, Australia

At this year’s SEAISI conference, held in Perth, Western Australia, May 15–17, Siemens took full advantage of an excellent opportunity to build customer relations in Australia and to strengthen ties with Southeast Asian customers.

The conference and exhibition was organized by the South East Asia Iron & Steel Institute based in Shah Alam in Malaysia around the theme of “Improving the Cost Competitiveness of Iron & Steel Industry” and covered:

  • Existing and Emerging Steel-Making Technologies
  • Changing Raw Materials and Suppliers
  • More Efficient Operating Practices
  • Changing Trade Patterns in Semi-finished Products
  • Opportunities / Threats from Competitive Products.

Easily the most important metals industry event in the Asia-Pacific region, SEAISI 2000 hosted 240 delegates from 21 countries. 50 companies were represented, and 29 companies ran a total of 32 booths in the exhibition area. During the three-day conference venue, 59 technical papers also were delivered.

Due to the strong mining industry in Australia, the conference focused on mining technologies, besides steelmaking, rolling mill, and processing line technologies. And, as this year marks the beginning of economic recovery in Southeast Asia, an ongoing interest of the conference was how to help manufacturers capitalize on brightening business prospects throughout the region.

Well-positioned at a strategic location in the exhibition area, two Siemens booths displayed the latest developments aimed at cutting costs in the metals industry, in line with the booth theme of “Innovations that Drive Your Business.” A team of nine specialists from sales offices in Singapore, Germany, Taiwan, Perth, and Melbourne was on hand to discuss cost-effective solutions with visitors. Video highlights of successful projects were also shown.

Additionally, Siemens delivered two technical papers high-lighting innovative, cost-cutting solutions:

  • “Modern, State-of-the-Art Integrated Process Control System Demonstrated in a Blast Furnace Application” by Li Jun of Siemens Advanced Engineering Pte. Ltd., Singapore
  • “Productised solutions resulting from the latest innovations revolutionize the cost and quality competitiveness of metal production processes” by Kim Toh Lim, Siemens Ltd., Melbourne, Australia.
Overall, the SEAISI conference provided an excellent forum for exchanging ideas with the visi-tors, gathering information about their future projects, showcasing Siemens solutions, and strength-ening customer relations.
