Solutions for All Requirements
In order to maximize converter and EAF productivity and to limit downstream refining costs, it is important to carefully prepare the hot metal prior to the steelmaking phase. On the basis of acquired know-how from over 50 years of steelmaking at voestalpine and from the steel works of other producers, Siemens VAI offers all technologies and solutions for hot metal pretreatment including
- Sulfur removal
- Silicon removal
- Phosphor removal
- Other special processes to reduce contents of Va, Cr, Ti and Mn
Various reactants, such as lime, powered limestone, calcium carbide, magnesium mixtures thereof, are charged to the bath by applying top blowing using a lance, bottom blowing through a tuyere or by direct feeding from charging bunkers.
