SINAVYCIS PEM Fuel Cell
> Submarines

Low-temperature fuel cells enabling longer submarine dives

For the generation of electrical power on submarines, the SINAVYCIS PEM Fuel Cell offers innovative technology. As a result, dive lengths can be considerably extended by as much as several weeks.

.
The challenge
Conventional diesel-electric submarines must surface at relatively short intervals in order to recharge their batteries using the diesel generators. During these recharging times, submarines are easy to spot and therefore vulnerable. Submarine designers have long attempted to free propulsion from the need for outside air, in order to lengthen dive times and reduce periods of vulnerability.

Our solution
The SINAVYCIS PEM Fuel Cell breaks propulsion’s dependency on outside air. As a result, the only limitations on the submarine’s ability to remain submerged are the power requirements and the size of the fuel cell’s storage tanks for hydrogen, determine. By relying on hydrogen and oxygen, the SINAVYCIS PEM Fuel Cell is completely exhaust-free and silent, with very low heat emissions. The SINAVYCIS PEM Fuel Cell modules also have extremely low maintenance needs, keeping overall costs down. The standardized modules that make up SINAVYCIS PEM Fuel Cell can be freely combined with one another, making it easy to adapt the system to a particular vessel’s needs. The components offer excellent reliability and a high degree of availability.

Good reasons for SINAVYCIS PEM Fuel Cell
> Submarines
  • Dive length extension of several weeks
  • Silent energy conversion
  • Low stray field, non-magnetic design
  • Greater efficiency than conventional internal combustion engines
  • No generation of pollutants
