SISHIPCIS DRIVE LV   
State-of-the art electric propulsion for ships

Siemens offers the low-voltage drive system SISHIPCIS DRIVE LV (LV up to 690V) with a performance range up to 5 MW.: Synchronous motors, DC-motors, permanently excited motors and asynchronous motors with pulse-modulated frequency converter (PWM).

The challenge
Electric propulsion systems are gaining more and more importance in shipping. They are far superior both technically and in operation to conventional diesel propulsion systems in almost all areas. Thanks to their flexibility and versatility, electric propulsion systems can be optimally customized to meet the widest range of demands. Additionally, the requirements of reliability, redundancy, vibration and noise, fuel efficiency, maneuverability and concerning long maintenance intervals are gradually becoming stricter.

Our solution
The SISHIPCIS DRIVE LV are available as standard up to 5000kW at 690V for each propeller, feeded with a asynchronous or a synchronous motor. The systems are available in 6-, 12- or 24 pulse diode rectifier input bridge. For high performance also AFE (Active Front End)-input bridge can be delivered. Siemens have been the market leader in increasing the blocking capacities to obtain higher current carrying capacities. The highly reliable SISHIPCIS DRIVE LV converters are available as compact freshwater cooling system. As standard a closed loop internal cooling with heat exchanger, pump, valves and all required monitoring and controlling equipment are included in the frequency converter system. Of the numerous customer benefits of utilizing diesel electric propulsion systems better redundancy and improved operational safety are key words. However, if these systems are not equipped with the proper safety and protection features different kinds of unexpected situations, operational failures or breakdown of components or systems can happen. Loss of propulsion or black-out of the entire vessel belongs to the least wanted but most likely consequential events that can take place without proper safety systems.
