SISHIPCIS DRIVE MV
State-of-the-art propulsion with diesel-electric drive systems for ships

Siemens offers two medium-voltage propulsion systems (up to 24 kV) covering a wide power range from 2 MW upwards: Current-source converters with synchronous machines (LCI - Load Commutated Inverter) and voltage-source converters with induction or synchronous machines (PWM - Pulse Width Modulation).

Electrical Propulsion Motor
The challenge
Diesel-electric propulsion systems have proven their superiority to conventional diesel-mechanical propulsion systems in almost all areas both technically and in operation. Extremely quiet and low in vibration, they are also excellently suited for use on board passenger and cruise vessels.

Our solution
Being able to design medium-voltage propulsion systems with both LCI and PWM converters, we always propose the best overall solution to our customers taking into account propulsion as well as power generation and distribution. The SISHIPCIS DRIVE MV converters have been designed for maximum reliability and minimum space requirements. The propulsion systems feature outstanding response characteristics, from zero to maximum propeller speed. Flexible and versatile, they can be optimally customized to meet the widest range of demands.

Good reasons for SISHIPCIS DRIVE MV
  • Highest efficiency at all speeds
  • Flexible and needs-oriented utilization of the diesel generators
  • Redundant design ensuring outstanding availability of the drive system
  • Longer service intervals reducing maintenance costs and downtimes
  • Reduced pollution emission of the diesel engines through operation at optimum speed and load
