Electrical Booster Drives
In regard to its functions, the
booster drive can be considered as
an additional cylinder to the main
diesel motor of a ship. The
capability of the booster to deliver
its rated torque in the whole speed
range from about 0 rpm up to
its rated speed results a lower
thermal load of the diesel motor and
long term lower abrasion will follow.
Furthermore, the booster can be
utilised for manoeuvring in ports or
for a very low speed operation. And
as an additional benefit, the
booster drive is provided as an
emergency or take home drive. |
