Siemens developed a special
Integrated Platform Management
System for the sophisticated
requirements of submarines. This
IPMS monitors and coordinates not
only the most diverse types of
shipboard installation but the
system has certain outstanding
characteristics and capabilities
such as:
Decentralized process execution
with autonomous local processing units
(LPUs)
Redundant data bus system
Long-term data archives
High level of fault tolerance
Optimal utilization of power in
process control, of compressed air
and of electrical energy
Noise-optimized control of
actuators
Cable saving by means of short
cable routes and the use of intelligent terminals
and serial interfaces to other external systems
User software in accordance with
DOD-STD or V-model
Automation Concept
Selected processes can
be controlled and monitored rapidly
and directly via controls and
displays - bypassing the screens.
Editing of process information into
process displays allows fast access
to information, and safe operation.
Faults and messages are stored with
the date and time.
Operator control of process elements,
functions and the entry of values
are checked for plausibility. When
controlling the processes, the
control system automatically takes
into account the boat status - such
as snorkeling, silent, ultrasilent.
