system relieves the crew of time consuming routine
tasks, enabling them to devote more time to their
core duties.
Siemens is currently focusing on future development
in the areas of innovative concepts for ship
propulsion and compact high-powered electrical
energy generation based on high-temperature
superconductor technology (HTS). The current in the
HTS windings flows without any electrical resistance
and the current density in the HTS is more than 10
times greater than in conventional copper coils.
This results in particularly positive attributes
for naval applications such as reduction of volumes,
weights and losses, increased power density and
efficiency, enhanced overload capability and less
noise and vibration.
