The challenge

Existing electrostatic precipitator were originally designed according to the emission limit values and operating conditions that were valid at the time of installation. But over the years, however, the emission limit values have steadily fallen and operating conditions have changed (increase production rate, change in fuel, charge materials, etc.) As a result, many electrostatic precipitators run inside the limit range, thus risking a loss of production if the limit is exceeded. Due to spatial considerations, a mechanical filter upgrade is often impossible and extremely expensive.

Our solution

Using the switching concept, SIPREC I inverters increase the corona power supplied with considerably higher switching frequencies and minimal switching times in comparision with thyristor technology. The power feed is immediately interrupted in case of filter dicharges, which means the precipitation process can be resumed much more quickly.

A simple preliminary test is conducted to determine what output increase is possible on your electrostatic precipitator through inverter technology. In the second step, a test installation is performed to verify the SIPREC I capacity under various operating conditions. Here, the existing high-voltage rectifiers can be used again with sufficient power reserves, i.e. only the control cubicles are changed.

In general, it is already sufficient to use inverter technology only for the inlet fields of the electrostatic precipitator. When controllers on the remaining high-voltage power supplies are also modernized, then all of the functions (e.g. power minimization, remote service) can be used via the PROFIBUS connection in combination with SIPREC ODS.
