Our
Yesterday and Today
For over
thirty years, the trade-mark Budimex has
been well known in the construction industry
both in Poland and abroad.
A group of companies rallied around the
Budimex joint-stock company and carried out
the operations of the Foreign Trade Agency
for the Construction Industry “Budimex”, as
it was established on January 1, 1968. The
company was established to promote the
export of building services, especially to
the developing markets of Asia, Africa as
well as to other countries in the former
communist block.
With the
political and economic changes at the end of
the 1980’s and beginning of the 1990’s,
Budimex reached a strong position in the
domestic construction market, somewhat at
the expense of its foreign markets. In 1992,
the State Enterprise was privatized and the
following year, converted into a joint stock
company. Since 1995, The Group has been
operating as a publicly-traded company,
listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
Having
adopted a strategy of establishing a strong
group of prominent construction companies,
Budimex invested in some leading Polish
companies in the sector, increasing its
capital base gradually to a level required
for a complete merger. Thus, it became the
core of a group of firms, including: Budimex
Poznań, Budimex Unibud, Dromex Mostostal
Kraków and Budimex Olsztyn, and merged into
one, named Budimex Dromex.
The Budimex
Group has become one of a few construction
groups of a national scope of business,
represented in regions with the highest
level of construction works. Currently, the
Budimex Group’s market share is 6 %.
In the year
2000, the Spanish Grupo Ferrovial became the
strategic investor in Budimex, with more
than half of the equity capital and votes,
exercised during the General Shareholders’
Meetings. This strategic partnership made it
possible for Budimex to become an industry
leader in the Polish market and to widen its
operating potential. In combining
Ferrovial’s capital potential, “know-how”
and international market recognition,
coupled with Budimex’s experience and
excellent contacts in the Polish market as
well as in the other countries of Central
and Eastern Europe, we are convinced that
new opportunities for expansion have
emerged.
Budimex has
completed more than 3,000 contracts in 23
countries in Europe, Asia and Africa.
