FIDS – Flight Information Display System

Keeping Passengers Informed

is one of the many important goals of a modern airport. When surroundings are unfamiliar and time is critical, people rely on display systems to guide them to their desired destination. Sophisticated flight information systems have to take existing language barriers into consideration and must provide accurate and complete information at all relevant locations. They have to be easily configurable, must run automatically and should have a pleasant appearance. A well-designed system contributes to a more efficient facility, and promotes traveller satisfaction.

With Intelligent Display Concepts

The UFIS1 Flight Information Display System (FIDS) ensures that all relevant information is displayed at the right time, in the right place. With 25 years of experience in this line of work, ABB offers a wide range of systems, capable of handling any type of display media, such as split-flap, TFTs, LCD or LED boards, plasma and color monitors. With its Central Database (CEDA), the system is designed to operate with minimal manual entry. Flight, delay or boarding information, as well as gate or baggage belt assignments, can be processed automatically. FIDS is a scaleable, state-of-the-art system including multi-lingual display technology. It is designed to display timetables, gate or baggage belt information or other travel/tourist information at any location.

Using our Flight Information Display System

Your system will be flexible and easy to operate, allowing users to specify precisely what information shall appear where and when. With user modules such as the FIDAS and the Page Editor, it is now possible to create your own environment. These powerful tools help to set up and operate the system. You will be able to make excellent use of previous investments. Interfaces to many other existing systems located at gates, check-in counters or baggage belts guarantee an optimum of adaptability.

Displays can also be used to show tourist information or advertising, further increasing efficiency and creating new marketing opportunities. The web-based staff terminal system (WBST) enables staff to view data from any browser in the airport intranet. As most people have already experience in using browsers, a fast start-up time and low training costs are other positive effects. Siemens offers consulting and marketing services on such systems to meet individual airport requirements. With a graphic arts studio, information displays can be designed to conform to existing corporate identity guidelines.
