Standard Airport Modules
Siemens Airports has created
standardized modular packages and solutions for small to medium-sized airports,
especially dedicated to airports up to a check-in capacity of 1500 PAX per hour
(approx. 5 million PAX per year). The modular packages and solutions are
designed particularly to meet the goals of cost-effectiveness and flexibility on
these airports.
The selected products and systems bring along all the quality and know-how we
have built in large projects, but are tailored to meet the reduced budgets and
the moderate automation needs. Our standardized modular packages and solutions
are based on an underlying “small terminal model”.
Background for the “small terminal model”
The airport model used as basis for
our systems development is a very typical, medium sized airport, serving up to 5
million passengers:
- Check-in capacity of approx. 1.500 pax / hr.
- Terminal building with a floor area of approx. 50,000 m² is
designed in a 3 level outline: Basement, ground floor and upper floor.
- The lobby on ground floor is divided into arrival and departure wings.
The departure wing includes a modular concept for up to 40 Common Use
Check-In desks plus one check-in counter for oversized baggage. Baggage
transportation is via conveyor belt to two independently operating baggage
make-up carousels where manual sortation takes place including an early bag
storage following the required security checks.
- The baggage hall has an assumed height of 5 m. The minimum height
should however not be below 3m.
- Baggage security is assured by a three-stage security concept.
- From check-in, the passengers enter the departure areas on the upper
level.
- Upon arrival, travelers reclaim their luggage on three baggage
carousels on the ground floor and leave the restricted area into the
main lobby’s arrival area.
- Passenger & staff information is supported by a total of 80 monitors.
