Open, manufacturer-independent Industrial Ethernet standard: PROFINET
For a majority of applications today, Ethernet is the globally leading LAN
technology. Ethernet offers important functionalities and performance features
that open up completely new potential for applications in airport logistics,
including nearly limitless possibilities for communication and flexibly scalable
performance levels. With PROFINET, conventional Ethernet technology is expanded
to cover use in automated processes with SCALANCE network components suited for
industrial use, redundant network architecture for high availability, continuous
monitoring and diagnosis of network components, as well as fast industrial
cabling on site. PROFINET, the open and manufacturer-independent Industrial
Ethernet standard enables direct and transparent access to all process data.
PROFINET is based on established IT standards and offers full TCP/IP support,
ensuring seamless, integrated communication – from individual baggage and cargo
handling systems right up to the Airport Control Center.
